Heard of the Free State Project?
our goal isnt exactly the same here but it is something to look at. The Libertarians started a "free state project" where lots of Libertarians would select one state and move there so they can make it into a Libertarian haven without law or government
The difference is that Canada is a good destinatiion for progressives because Canada already is progressive. We're not trying to change it, just be somewhere better and hopefully make it strongerAre you frustrated at the loss of freedom and responsibility in America, while the growth of government and taxes continues unabated? Do you want to live in strong communities where your rights are respected, and people exercise responsibility for themselves and in their dealings with each other?
If you answered "yes" to those questions, then the Free State Project has a solution for you.
What the Free State Project is... The Free State Project is an effort to recruit 20,000 liberty-loving people to move to New Hampshire. We are looking for neighborly, productive, tolerant folks from all walks of life, of all ages, creeds, and colors who agree to the political philosophy expressed in our Statement of Intent, that government exists at most to protect people's rights, and should neither provide for people nor punish them for activities that interfere with no one else.

I've only been to Canada briefly, but from what I've seen of it, it is just amazing. If I wasn't living in Australia and loving it, I'd want to move there. Here's a funny story that shows why:
My wife and I were in the States visiting my family (we now live in Australia), and during the trip we decided to take in as much as possible - it's such a bloody long flight after all - so we decided to go to Glacier National Park in Montana.
As it turns out GNP is one half of a World Peace Park, with Waterton NP in Canada being the other. Of course the US side doesn't bother to tell you that - doesn't that say it all.
Anyway, when we found out about it we decided to drive up there. The experience of crossing the border was just surreal.
On the US side there were about 9 really seriously grumpy people, completely decked out - guns, mace, handcuffs...probably bulletproof vests too - and they made us get out of the car. The completely search everything, used mirrors on the underside of the car, demanded to see our passports...the works. This is LEAVING THE US mind you!! Despite our attempts to be cordial and make small talk, they just wouldn't have it. Eventually they let us go.
About 30 meters away was the Canadian inspection gate - One guy in a booth. No gun, no bullet-proof vest, nothing; just a "hello, how's it going" and a smile. The most intrusive we got from him was "So, do you have any guns, drugs, or illegal substances of any kind? No? Ok drive on through and enjoy your day." How's that for a friggin' contrast!
The tension levels across the border were noticeably different. People were nicer, more friendly, and more relaxed. That was enough of a testimony for me right there - if we ever had to move back to North America for any reason, I know where I'm going!
Why do they even care what's under your car when you are LEAVING? That's just stupid.
thanks for the great story, and people try to say the U.S. isn't a police state

No, get out. We don't want you here. Canada is this big progressive myth of a fairyland where liberals run the show.
And that was enabled primarily because of the uniting of Quebec socialists looking to emulate Europe and Toronto baristas dictating policy to the rest of the nation.
That old paradigm doesn't work anymore. The conservatives are in, and despite doomsayers we're not on the way out as major players anytime soon.
